Day 6 Patterdale to Bampton (21.5 Km, total ascent 983m)

Day 6 Patterdale to Bampton (21.5 Km, total ascent 983m)

On a lovely clear day we left Patterdale to walk up to the summit of Kidsty Pike.  For most, this is the highest point in the walk at 780 metres, but for us, both Fairfield (873m) and St Sunday Crag (841m) on our walk yesterday were higher.  Still, three peaks in two days is hard work and then there is a 6 Km walk along Haweswater.

View over the river back to Patterdale.

We reach the picturesque Angle Tarn

Once down we look back up to the summit of Kidsty Pike, the pointy bit to the right.

We have a rest in the woods.

As usual, watched by sheep

Haweswater in the Mardale Valley.  A lake dammed to create a reservoir for Manchster, resulting in the flooding of the villages of Mardale Green and Measand.  It is 6 km long.

Panorama of Haweswater.

Village of Burnbanks.

At the end of Haweswater, we reach the village of Burnbanks.  Here we head North off the route for a few Kilometres to the village of Bampton.

Here, we not only see a different breed of sheep.

But also see Cows for the first time, a Belted Galloway.

At the end of a good day of walking we are glad to see the village sign.

As we walk past the Mardale Inn, the sign says "Always Open", but currently it is closed.  No meal there tonight.

We finally reach the Bampton Village Store, our B&B.
